It is with great joy that we welcome the Rev. Jessie Alejandro to serve as deacon among us as she prepares for ordination in the spring. Jessie has spent the last two decades serving and ministering among her neighbors in Kensington, in the city of Philadelphia.
Jessie founded “Mothers Mission” in 2003. She gathered a group of volunteers, women and men, to feed those in need and still continues the mission today. The mission also has it annual Thanksgiving Outdoor Feast, in the past years the feast has grown to 2000 meals in the Kensington area of Philadelphia and also spiritual and moral support for those with addictions throughout the city and the South Jersey area. In November of 2019 a chapter begun to feed the children in schools with less resources. Yesenia, with numerous trips to the island of Puerto Rico following Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Jessie was able to establish another chapter of “Mothers Mission” called “Misión de Madres” (Spanish for Mothers Mission) in Puerto Rico which now has over a hundreds of volunteers throughout the island. Most recently, at the invitation of Bishop Sylvestre and as a fruit of visits to our Companion Diocese, Mothers Mission sent hundreds of book bags to Guatemala.
Jessie invites all women to a Women’s Healing Group that meets at 3:30 – 5:30 on Tuesday evenings at the St. John’s Soup Kitchen. They explore stories, support and pray for one another. Bienvenidos!
